NEW YEARS EVE AND NEED A QUICK FIX FOR YOUR NAIL GAP BUT NO TIME OR MONEY!
I don’t often get gel nails, as I like to change colour and nail design frequently; but sometimes I do need a little help if they are starting to break, and then I opt for gel. Let’s face it, gel looks great, the colour doesn’t chip or fade and it keeps your nails from breaking; but…. they do COST and when they start to grow out like mine have in the picture above, you can’t use nail polish remover. The removal of gel is a lengthy process, and one that should absolutely be done properly to prevent any damage to the nail-bed. I used to be a hand model, and as funny as that sounds, it was actually awesome and you get to meet some amazing people; so keeping my hands and nails in great condition was a must, so unless you know how to remove gel, it’s better to get it done professionally, trust me!
I know that it’s not always easy to keep nails in perfect order, and even more so if you have gel that has grown out; so I have created a little tutorial on how to extend the life of your gel nails, by filling that gap! (Please note that I used large loose glitter, as it adds depth and volume to the gap. This way, it doesn’t look like you just covered the gap, ‘hey, this is part of the design’)
Please see the full quick tutorial on YouTube: EASY GEL NAIL HACK TO FILL THAT GAP!
I used the following items:
Collistar Top Coat (Gel & Volume Effect). You can use any top coat, I like this particular one as it slides on perfectly and gives a slight gel look and feel.
Gold Pupa Lasting Nail Polish. Again you can use any colour or brand you like, I used this colour as it is similar to the glitter sprinkles I added.
Large Gold Glitter Sprinkles by Pupa. For this effect, I would recommend loose glitter sprinkles similar to those used in my video, but any brand will do. I bought mine from Pupa about 1 year ago, so unsure if it is still available.
Cuticle Pusher – I used a wooden one.
Step 1: Clean the nail-beds, to make sure they are free from dirt, then apply your choice of clear topcoat or colour polish to the area you want covering. Don’t worry about the polish being perfect as you can clean later. Unless you are trying this on nails with normal nail polish and not gel, then try to keep it neat. My video shows 3 different designs.
Step 2: Immediately after applying the polish and before it has dried, add the loose glitter. If you find you don’t have enough glitter coverage, repeat until you have the desired effect.
Step 3: Use a nail (or makeup) brush, and a cuticle pusher to tidy and remove any unwanted loose glitter.
Step 4: Wrap a little cotton wool around the end of the cuticle pusher, and dip in nail polish remover. Carefully clean any polish around the nails, and if needed use on the nail-bed to tidy the design. Please note that if you are using this on normal nail polish, you cannot use the nail polish remover on the nail-bed as it will remove your colour.
Step 5: Add a clear top coat to protect the loose glitter and to keep it in place. I used 2 coats.
And you are done! No more gap, just great looking nails that will tide you over for another couple of weeks.
I hope you found this helpful, and would love to see your photos if you tried this. Also, if you have any questions or want to see a specific post on other nail items, don’t be shy, please ask away I would love to help!
