DIY OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS DECOR IN 1 HOUR USING WIRE HANGERS
Usually we put our decor up a couple a weeks before Christmas, however this year due to travels, we were a little late. I love decorating the external of the house as well as internal, but rather than rush out to buy new items for the garden, I decided to see if there was something I could quickly make with tools and materials I had at home.
I really enjoy working with wire, and since we have so many wire hangers just sitting in the back of the closet, I decided to put them to good use and make an outdoor Christmas Tree.
This particular project only took me an hour; it didn’t cost me anything since I already had the lights, and the results are surprisingly good. It’s quite difficult to see the size of the tree in the image, but it stands approximately 1.5 meters high.
In order to make this, I used the following:
28 Wire Hangers
Clear Scotch Tape
Outdoor Coloured LED Lights (7 meters)
Outdoor White LED Lights (3 meters)
I wrapped the scotch tape around the hangers to secure them together; in the image above, you can see that I did in 3 places to make sure they stay put. The first hanger is upright since I will use that one to hang the tree with. All of the other hangers are upside down, as I will be using the hooks to hang the Christmas Ornaments.
In total I used 24 hangers for the main tree, creating 8 layers, all fixed using scotch tape. Make sure that each hanger is secured well in at least 3 places; this should prevent any from disconnecting whilst hung. If you have more time, I would recommend securing with wire so that it can be used year after year.
The colour Christmas LED lights are then secured to the outer section of the hangers, again using scotch tape.
I used 1 wire hanger to make the pot at the bottom of the tree, by pulling it open creating a square and then attach to the bottom hangers with scotch tape. Then take 3 hangers to create a star shape first securing together, and then fixing to the first hanger at the top of the tree.
Then use the white LED lights for the star, and work down throughout the tree wrapping the lights around the wire hangers, and finish using a couple for the square pot at the bottom. Make sure the last few lights are well secured, to prevent them from unravelling later.
Next hang the tree so that you can add the ornaments. I added an ornament to every hook, however if you wanted to spend more time you could also add ornaments to other places within the tree.
Turn on the lights and voilà! Now you have yourself a Very Merry Christmas Tree.
Who would have thought that a simple wire hanger could be used in so many ways. I would love to hear about projects you have made using wire hangers.
HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
