WEDDING IN WINDSOR
Before we were married, my husband and I discussed at length where we should marry, and of course the most sensible place would have been in Italy since were we living there; and for some this would be a dream. But there was something so special about England for us, maybe it was because I grew up there, or because that is where we met; but eventually we decided it was the right choice, not the easiest as there would be a lot of travelling back and forth to organise, but most definitely the perfect choice for us.
Although we had just less than a year to plan, which seems like a long time; it really isn’t since there is so much to do. We did a lot of research online for possible venues and we both wanted a church wedding, which isn’t easy when you no longer live in the country. We didn’t spend too much time looking through magazines, we choose 5 venues to visit and arranged to meetings with churches close to each venue, since many friends and family would be travelling from abroad it was best to keep the two close. We hopped on a plane, landed in London and got to work.
We eventually choose a beautiful venue for the reception Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor. The location was perfect, the grounds were beautiful, but I think the thing that really sold us was the Chapel used for the reception, It was absolutely stunning to say the least. We managed to find a perfectly situated church just 20 minutes from the venue and the priest was fantastic. Now back to Italy to look for the dress!
I had a very specific idea of what I wanted my dress to look like, and although I searched and tried a lot of beautiful dresses, there were just not quite right. Eventually my sister-in-law (to be) took me to meet with a wedding dress designer in Bologna Vittoria Bonini, who I immediately felt at ease with. She helped me bring my idea of my perfect dress to life; we sat for about an hour, she drew whilst I talked her ear off discussing every detail of my perfect dress, how it should look, how it should fall, which fabrics I wanted. YES… there it was, my dress on paper and exactly as it looked in my head. The months that passed were wonderful watching the creation of the dress from simple fitting fabric through to the masterpiece. IT WAS PERFECT! She also designed and made my husbands wedding tux, a dress for one of my bridesmaids as well as attire for family members. We invited Vittoria to our wedding, and she helped make sure the dress was perfect for the day, such a special person and extremely talented.
We decided on silver and a hint of blue/purple as our colour scheme, and the only thing that I stressed to the bridesmaids, was that the colour of the dress needed to be silver. The style, length and fit was their choice. The dress below worn by Anna Lisa was also designed by the bridesmaid herself.
We were married on 1st September, so the weather could go either way. We were extremely lucky that it was a stunning and warm day. We stayed in the hotel the evening before (in separate rooms of course!) and the morning of the wedding my room was filled with the scent of white roses, bridesmaids, family, makeup and hair artists, and most definitely champagne. It was a perfect start to a perfect day.
We were almost ready, when I could hear the sound of the surprise I had arranged for my husband arriving. Right on time the red Ferrari arrived to take him to the church, with a little stop en-route for a cheeky spin. Whilst myself, four bridesmaids and my brother also travelled in true english style.
The ceremony was wonderful, since half of the congregation was Catholic and Italian, and myself being Church of England, our priest had agreed to try where possible to integrate the two during the ceremony. He also added a little Italian which was a wonderful touch. We asked my Aunt to sing at the church, she has a beautiful operatic and stunning voice that fills the room and hearts with emotion.
Now off to the reception for an apéritif before the meal, which was enjoyed outside, and then into to Chapel for the reception lunch, dinner and party. A good friend had agreed to sing at our wedding during the reception and again in the evening, and what a superb voice. That very first moment she started to sing, everybody turned to look, she was sensational.
It was an incredible day for myself and Sandro, and one that will always be close to our hearts.
A huge thank you to our friends, family, and everyone involved. You all made our day perfect!
