WEIGHT LOSS THE RIGHT WAY
I did a post back in April about weight loss post-pregnancy, and getting beach ready; so since we are mid-summer I thought I would recap on how my journey is going so far.
I had 11kg to lose to get back to my optimum weight, but rather than fad diets, I wanted to go a route that was sustainable and that would keep the weight off. Its now 12 weeks later and I have managed to lose 7kg (just over half a kg a week). How did I do this:
- Calorie counting (I counted calories during the week reducing my intake by 20-30%, weekends were my cheat days) I definitely recommend having a cheat day or two, otherwise you will find yourself binge eating.
- Heathy Eating but without removing the things I love. i.e. chocolate and a little glass of vino every now and then.
- Interval Training and Running, which I manage to do 2-3 times a week.
Its important when trying to loose weight, that you combine all the above to safely lose those unwanted extra kilos. If you reduce your calorie intake only, yes you will lose weight but you will also experience muscle loss, and may have problems with fatigue, constipation, headaches, and loss of nutrients; not to mention the more serious effects which could form depending on how much you reduce your calorie intake. Do not starve yourself, reduce those calories by a little only; yes it may be a longer route, but a more sustainable and heathy one.
Twice or 3 times a week I replaced my lunch with one of my favourite smoothies, here is the breakdown:
- 1 Apple
- 1 Kiwi
- 1/2 Slice of Pineapple
- 1 Cup of Raw Spinach
- Stalks of Celery
- (Kale optional)
I used to run and exercise a lot pre-pregnancy, so I didn’t really find this too much of an issue. However; I did want to tone and fingers-crossed have abs to show. I ran a fair amount during the first 10 weeks, and now doing the Body Boss Workout which I find fantastic! It has an easy to follow 12 week plan, and it focuses on every muscle group. Since starting this plan, I have to say that I no longer rely on the scales as much as I used to; I already fit into all my pre-pregnancy clothes even whilst showing I am still 4 kg out (remember that muscle is heavier than fat!).
Do you have any weight loss/gain goals?
Have a fabulous Friday!
